PDFab Privacy Policy

Privacy Policy

1. What PDFab Does

PDFab lets you open, organize, convert, scan, sign, compress, and extract text from PDF documents on your device.

The current Android build also includes AI-related document features for local redaction, translated PDF output, summary generation, AI chat over attached documents, and semantic search inside the local file library.

The app is designed around a local-first workflow for core document handling.

2. Data Processed On Your Device

Depending on how you use the app, PDFab may process:

  • PDF files you choose to open or import
  • Images or camera captures you choose for scan or conversion flows
  • OCR text extracted from documents you select
  • Semantic index entries and document search metadata
  • Text blocks extracted for translation, summary, AI chat, or sensitive-content detection
  • New local output PDFs created by translation, redaction, or other processing flows
  • Summary outputs or saved result files you choose to keep
  • Signature assets you create inside the app
  • Temporary files created during processing
  • Local settings, ad privacy choice state, and task progress state

Based on the current app behavior, core document handling is performed locally on your device and is not intentionally uploaded to our own servers as part of normal app use.

3. Explicit Export and Sharing

When you choose to export, reveal, or share a file, PDFab may pass that file to another app, location, or system share target that you explicitly selected.

These transfers happen only as part of a user-initiated action. The privacy practices of the destination app or service will apply once you choose to share content with it.

4. Advertising, Analytics, and SDK Data

The current Android build includes third-party Google SDKs such as:

  • Google Mobile Ads SDK
  • Firebase Analytics
  • Google ML Kit Document Scanner
  • Google ML Kit Text Recognition
  • Google ML Kit Language ID
  • Google ML Kit Translation

According to Google's published disclosure guidance, the current SDK stack may process approximate location inferred from IP address, app interaction signals, diagnostics, and device, installation, advertising, or other identifiers.

Firebase Analytics is initialized in the current Android build and is used for app bootstrap and ad-lifecycle event telemetry. Google Mobile Ads and consent-related SDK flows may process ad identifiers and privacy choice signals. ML Kit SDKs may collect diagnostics, usage analytics signals, and installation-related identifiers.

5. Permissions and Background Processing

Based on the current Android build, the app may use:

  • INTERNET for ads, analytics, consent flows, and SDK communication where applicable
  • POST_NOTIFICATIONS so long-running AI jobs can show progress or completion status
  • FOREGROUND_SERVICE and FOREGROUND_SERVICE_DATA_SYNC so certain long-running AI jobs can continue while the app is backgrounded

The app also uses platform document, file, and sharing APIs when you import content or explicitly export it.

6. Accounts and Cloud Storage

Based on the current app build, PDFab does not require you to create a user account in order to use its core features.

The current app does not provide a first-party cloud account system for storing your PDF library, OCR text, AI summaries, translation outputs, or signature history on our own backend.

7. Data Retention and Deletion

  • Core documents, scans, OCR results, semantic search indexes, AI outputs, and signature assets stay on your device unless you explicitly export or share them.
  • Files kept inside the app remain on your device until you delete them, use cleanup controls, or uninstall the app.
  • Certain temporary or sensitive files may be removed automatically by the app's cleanup behavior depending on the feature and your settings.
  • If you explicitly export or share a file outside the app, that external copy may remain available until you delete it from the destination app, service, or storage location.
  • Because the current app does not maintain first-party user accounts or a first-party cloud backend for your document data, there is no server-side deletion workflow for core PDFab document content at this time.

8. Local Security Measures

  • Private-by-default output handling until you explicitly export or reveal files
  • Encrypted local storage support for signature asset secrets
  • Automatic cleanup behavior for certain temporary or sensitive content
  • Automatic clearing of copied OCR text from the clipboard after a short delay
  • Settings access for reviewing ad privacy choices where regionally applicable

9. Children

PDFab is a general productivity utility app and is not designed specifically for children.

10. Changes To This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy as the product changes. If we make material changes, we will update the effective date shown at the top of this page.
